Understanding Corruption
Overview
Corruption is easy to condemn in general and surprisingly hard to recognise in particular. A payment to “facilitate” a file, a job given to a relative who is genuinely capable, a small gift after a contract is signed, each can be explained away in the moment. This module gives you the definitions and categories to see these situations clearly.
After completing this module you will be able to:
- Define corruption and explain its essential elements.
- Explain what the Corruption Perceptions Index measures, and where Ghana stands.
- Distinguish grand, petty and political corruption.
- Identify the main forms of corruption, including bribery, embezzlement, fraud, favouritism and nepotism.
- Describe the impact of corruption on individuals, organisations, the economy and society.
